Welcome to my Linux PC Gaming Notes

If you're here, chances are you're interested in gaming on Linux, using tools like Steam, Lutris, and Nexus Mods. This site is a place where I document tips, tricks, and troubleshooting steps that I've discovered while gaming on Linux.

About Me

This site started out as a collection of my own notes of what has worked for me with my setup, and in the spirit of the Linux community, I wanted to share these to make Linux desktop gaming more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

I'm an enthusiastic UK-based Linux gamer who enjoys getting my setup just right, sharing what I've learned. I switched to Linux for gaming because I value the control, freedom, and community that Linux offers. Plus, there's something incredibly satisfying about making a game run beautifully on Linux, often better than expected! While I still respect other platforms, I believe Linux has a lot to offer for gamers who are willing to dive in.

Why desktop game on Linux?

Gaming on Linux might not seem like the easiest choice, but it has many benefits:

  • Privacy and Security: Linux is open-source, giving you more control over what’s running on your system.
  • Flexibility: You can customize your setup to fit your needs, from lightweight distros to powerful gaming rigs.
  • Community: The Linux gaming community is incredibly helpful and supportive, and there are constant improvements thanks to projects like Proton and Lutris.

While Linux gaming has challenges, it’s also rewarding. This site exists to share ideas to help you troubleshoot your own setup.

Why not use a Steam Deck?

As a proud owner of a Steam Deck, I agree it is a fantasic piece of kit.

However, as an older gamer, I am far more comfortable with a keyboard and mouse than with a controller. If you prefer a controller, or want a good Linux gaming option on the go, I can fully recommend a Steam Deck.
